Celebrate National Pig Day With Delicious Iowa Pork!

National Pig Day lands on March 1st and since Iowa is the nation’s largest pork-producing state, this makes an excellent topic for our Des Moines BBQ restaurant‘s blog this week. You’ll find lots and lots of delicious dishes featuring this incredible animal on the menu at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive.

Iowa Pork

Our great state is responsible for raising about 1/3 of the nation’s pigs. As a matter of fact, they outnumber humans in Iowa nearly 4 to 1! Over 6,000 pig farms can be found around Iowa and at any given time, there are about 22 million pigs being raised. It’s no surprise, with so many of them around, that pork is a food you’ll find throughout the Boot’s extensive menu.

The mouthwatering, hickory-smoked pork served at Wobbly Boots BBQ is fantastic as a main dish and we love adding it to other items on the menu as well. With a flavor that incredible, we couldn’t contain it to only BBQ plates and sandwiches! Here are a few of the taste-tempting items we’ve got for you to enjoy.

Pulled Pork
Our pork is covered in our house-made rub then slow-smoked over hickory for 16 hours, trimmed and hand-pulled.

Pit Ham
Applewood double-smoked pit ham. A lean outstanding choice.

Smoked Sausage
A sweet and smokey Italian sausage. We slow-smoke our sausage rope then slice it into pieces. A hidden house favorite… Try it & you’ll love it!

Baby Back Ribs
Over two pounds of our slow-smoked delicious dry-rubbed baby back ribs, lightly grilled & basted in our house recipe BBQ sauce. Tender and mouthwatering…the very best in ribs!

More Where That Came From…

Like we mentioned earlier, the pork served at our family restaurant in Des Moines is so deliciously versatile, it can be found in a variety of different dishes throughout our menu. Here’s a peek at a few of those.

Famous Iowa Tenderloin
First and foremost, an Iowa tradition! Our personal version is made from a generous cut of pork tenderloin that is tenderized, hand-dipped, and then breaded in our seasoned flour and bread crumbs. Make sure to come in hungry because this baby is as big as the plate!

Pulled Pork Mountain
Our homemade smashed potatoes piled high on white bread and generously topped with in-house smoked pulled pork, covered entirely with beef gravy, and served with a side of cheesy corn. DELISH!

Three Little Pigs
Just like the name says – House-smoked pulled pork, ham, and bacon stacked high on a freshly toasted bun and topped with our homemade BBQ sauce.

BBQ Pork Nachos
A house favorite!! A bed of crispy tortilla chips smothered in our homemade pepper-jack queso, topped with our house-smoked pulled pork and legendary baked beans, then finished with cheddar-jack cheese, red onion, and tomatoes. It’s all served with a side of sour cream, jalapenos, and our homemade salsa.

Graziano Sausage Bites
Iowa’s own Graziano Italian sausage with a hint of red peppers and cheddar-jack cheese, hand-rolled and lightly breaded then quick-fried to golden perfection. Served with chipotle ranch. Delicious!

Pork Pot Stickers
Crescent-shaped pork-filled dumplings lightly fried and served with our own Jamaican Jerk sauce. A tasty treat.

The Wrangler
A wheat tortilla stuffed with pulled pork, legendary baked beans, and creamy coleslaw. We then grill it blending all three flavors into one incredible wrap!

Wobbly Style Club
Hickory-smoked ham, turkey, and bacon with lettuce, tomato, mozzarella cheese, and avocado mayo served between two pieces of sourdough toast.

The Griller
A customer favorite! Two slices of sourdough bread, American and Swiss cheeses, crisp bacon, smoked ham, and smoked turkey all grilled to perfection.

Hillbilly Cuban
Our house pulled pork with smoked ham, melted Swiss cheese, pickles, and our own Jamaican jerk sauce served on a double toasted bun.

Texas 2-Step
Smoked beef brisket with smoked sausage drizzled with our house recipe BBQ sauce and served on two slices of golden Texas toast.

Porker Flatbread
Our homemade Jamaican jerk sauce with pulled pork, sautéed onion, and mushroom topped with
cheddar-jack cheese.

Cowboy Cobb Salad
Yep, even on the salads! Crisp greens generously topped with smoked ham & turkey, crumbled bacon, hard-boiled egg, avocado, tomatoes, red onion, cheddar-jack & our five cheese mozzarella blend.
