Wobbly Boots BBQ
Father’s Day weekend is upon us (Sunday, June 16, 2019) and we bet you are racking your brain for the perfect present to give good old Dad. Well, look no further! Lunch, dinner, or maybe even brunch at the best BBQ restaurant in Des Moines is something that any father will love. Dads and BBQ have a lot in common, after all. Here is our Wobbly Boots Roadhouse list of similarities between these two great things.
D-A-D and B-B-Q
Three small letters make up these two short words that = great big, wonderful things! No man in your life rates bigger than Dad and no flavor rates higher than our house-recipe BBQ sauce. You can even pick up a bottle to put a bow on and give to your father to take home.
Warm and Comforting
BBQ is an excellent comfort food. After a rough day, a delicious meal from Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is almost as good as a great big hug from your dad when you are feeling low. The best of both worlds is when you can share a meal here with your father after one of those incredible hugs.
Robust Describes Them Both
We found a couple of different meanings for this word that seemed to fit our two subjects perfectly.
- #1: strong and effective in all or most situations or conditions (just like a father)
- #2: rich and full-bodied (like the flavor or our juicy, hickory-smoked meats.)
Jack of All Trades
Most people begin life seeing their father as infinitely wise, knowing everything about every possible subject. Even as we get older and realize our “Super-Dad” is merely human, he always seems to find a way to master whatever it is we need to be done.
Our Des Moines BBQ restaurant menu is filled with mouth-watering BBQ, but there are lots of other flavors that come out of our kitchen too, making it a perfect place to take a family that can’t agree on one type of food.
Always Here For You
No matter where you are or what you need, a good dad is always a phone call away, ready to lend a hand. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is here, ready to serve you, seven days a week beginning Monday-Friday at 11:00 am and early on Saturday and Sunday for brunch at 9:00 am.
Our family restaurant in Des Moines has so much in common with dear old Dad, this is naturally the perfect place to bring him to celebrate Father’s Day this year. A full menu of delicious foods to choose from, plenty of televisions to catch his favorite games, and a warm, friendly dining room to enjoy it all in. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there and we hope to see all of you this Sunday at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse.

That patty would taste incredible on its own, but our chefs have gone a step further and come up with some amazing burger creations. Delicious toppings combinations that will have your taste buds thanking you for your brilliant order choice! Here is a look at the mouthwatering burgers that your mouth, and your stomach, have to look forward to when you visit our Des Moines family restaurant.

Memorial Day Fun Facts
Memorial Day does mean more than “just a great holiday to throw a BBQ party.” It is a federal holiday set aside every year to honor and remember all of the soldiers that fought for our country that are no longer with us. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse found some very interesting facts to share with you about this meaningful holiday.
- Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, In the 1880s, veterans of the Civil War honored their fallen comrades by decorating their graves with flags and flowers.
- People began referring to it as Memorial Day in 1882, but there wasn’t a legal name-change recorded until 1967.
- For many years this holiday was officially observed on May 30. Congress decided that some holidays should always fall on a Monday to allow a 3-day weekend, so in 1971, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act came into effect, permanently moving Memorial Day to the last Monday in May.
- American flags should be flown at half-mast on Memorial Day, but only until noon. At that time they are immediately raised to full-staff until sunset. This way part of the day is reserved for remembering the fallen, and the rest of the day is for enjoying the freedoms that those people helped us to have.
- A wonderful tradition that few know about was made into a law by Congress in 2000. President Bill Clinton signed the National Moment of Remembrance Act which states that all Americans must pause at 3 pm, local time, and take a moment to remember the brave men and women that fought for our freedom. Happy Hour at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse begins at 3 pm on Mondays, which is perfect timing for raising a glass to those fallen heroes after a moment of silence.
However you decide to spend your Memorial Day Weekend, we hope that you stay safe and enjoy it with the people you care most about. If you get the chance, join us at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. It’s always a lot more fun to be at work when you’re here with us!

National Prime Rib Day falls on a Saturday this year (April 27) and that just so happens to be one of the 2 days each week when we serve the best prime rib in Des Moines! We are famous for our mouthwatering hickory-smoked meats at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive and our hickory-smoked Prime Rib Dinner is a delicious way to celebrate this fantastic cut of steak.
Why Is Prime Rib So Delicious?
Prime rib is one of the most savory, juicy, and flavorful cuts of meat you can get from a cow. This particular cut of beef is sometimes referred to as a standing rib roast, and it’s the finest cut of beef you will find. It is cut from the primal rib, one of the eight primal cuts of beef. The amount of marbling found on prime rib makes a big difference in the quality. The more fat that is woven throughout a particular cut, the more tender and juicy the final product will taste.
Prime Rib Dinner at the Boot
We take special care in the way we prepare prime rib at our family restaurant in Des Moines. Every single serving is hand-cut, perfectly seasoned, and slow-smoked for 5 hours to marvelously juicy and flavorful perfection. Even though Wobbly Boots Roadhouse‘s homemade Mac & Cheese is most often considered a side dish, for some people it’s a big reason they dine at our BBQ restaurant in Des Moines. Our version is so rich, creamy, and savory that it’s nearly as famous as our award-winning hickory-smoked BBQ!
As a matter of fact, we make an entire meal out of it on the kids’ menu and it’s even become a main ingredient on one of our signature burgers. (Appropriately known as the Mac & Cheese Burger.) If you are a mac & cheese fan (and we know you all are) you will be interested to learn the intriguing facts we found out about this tasty treat.
Since macaroni is pasta, many assume it’s an Italian dish but it is actually of English origin.
It’s a Classic
There is evidence that this dish made of pasta and cheese has been around since the 14th century. Two recipes were found in medieval cookbooks. One was made with parmesan and pasta and the other contained fresh, hand-cut pasta sandwiched between a mix of melted butter and cheese.
From Italy to the U.S.
Even though this dish is English in origin, the story of mac & cheese coming to the United States did begin in Italy. American president Thomas Jefferson discovered the food while in Paris. In 1793, he commissioned the American ambassador to Paris to purchase the machine used for making macaroni. Not quite able to recreate the taste he fell in love with, Jefferson later had macaroni and parmesan cheese imported to Monticello, his primary plantation. There he served this favorite food at a state dinner as “a pie called macaroni” and our country’s fascination with mac & cheese was born.
Making the Top Ten
Mac & cheese is consistently in top ten lists for favorite comfort foods as well as favorite kids’ foods. (We believe the mac & cheese at the Boot is delicious enough to claim the #1 spot on both of those lists!)
A Famous Color
Macaroni & cheese become a Crayola crayon color in 1993 as a part of their orange hue family.
The Perfect Pairing
Apparently, it is said the burgundy wine is the perfect wine to pair with mac & cheese. We’re definitely willing to give that a try, but we also enjoy it with an ice-cold Iowa-brewed beer or a big refreshing glass of iced tea and our youngest diners seem to enjoy it with a healthy glass of milk.
A Tasty Holiday
This amazing side dish gets its own national holiday on the calendar every year – July 14. (Of course, when you come into our Des Moines family restaurant, we’re ready to “celebrate” mac & cheese with you any day of the year, 7 days a week!)
Mac & Cheese at the Boot
The mac & cheese at Wobbly Boots BBQ is primarily served as one of our many homestyle side dishes, either in a cup or, for those that simply can’t get enough of it, in a bigger boat. As we mentioned earlier, it is one of the most popular meals on our kids’ menu & our Mac & Cheese Burger combines two favorite foods into one mouthwatering sandwich. Come in soon and enjoy a cup (or a boat) for yourself!
