Wobbly Boots BBQ
DID YOU KNOW that there is an official “National Happy Hour Day” on the calendar every year? According to the “Checkiday” app (which is filled with all kinds of unique holidays to celebrate), Happy Hour Day falls annually on November 12. We would love for you to join us for the best Happy Hour in Des Moines next Tuesday to celebrate. Of course, here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive, we celebrate Happy Hour 5 days a week, year-round!
Happy Hour at the Boot
Happy Hour happens at Wobbly Boots BBQ every Monday-Friday from 3-6 pm. That’s perfectly timed to wind you down after a long, hectic day. We’ll wet your whistle with refreshing beers and masterfully mixed cocktails and as an added bonus, you’ll get them at a discounted price!
We’ve got 18 incredible beers on tap included in our Happy Hour specials. These include quite a few amazing Iowa-brewed craft beers. If you don’t happen to be in a beer mood, you can also receive discounts on many of our mixed drinks. Pair those drinks with one of our awesome appetizers to hold you over until dinner and the “hour” gets even happier!
Happy Hour – It Does a Body Good
Studies have been conducted that prove heading to Happy Hour is good for you. Here are some of the benefits the occasional Happy Hour can provide.
- Lowers Depression – Studies have shown that spending time enjoying the company of others relieves built-up tension and lowers the risk of depression. Both of those things are excellent for improving your overall mental health at work and at home.
- Improves Heart Health – When consumed in moderation, beer can help to boost your “good” cholesterol by 10-20%, which aids in reducing the chances of heart disease, stroke, and heart attacks.
- Improves Life at the Office – Having a drink with your co-workers after the workday is over is a great way to de-stress and get to know each other in a more relaxed atmosphere. Getting the chance to form relationships outside of the pressure of work and deadlines can help everyone to work together better once you get back to the office.
Stick Around For Dinner Too
If you stick around until the end of Happy Hour at the Boot, you might as well stay a little longer and let our Des Moines BBQ Restaurant cook dinner for you too! Extend those relaxing, good feelings you got during Happy Hour by letting us wait on you, taking care of the cooking and the cleaning up when you’re done!
If the family is at home waiting for you, either invite them to meet you at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse for dinner or order dinner to go for everyone before you leave. That means less work for you, an extremely delicious meal for all, and more time to relax the rest of the evening. Win-win-win!

Our Loaded Bakers take a regular baked potato and turn it into something that will satisfy any appetite. It’s filled with cheddar-jack cheese, crumbled bacon, green onions, and one of our hickory-smoked meats. It’s kind of like one of the side dishes “ate” a main dish!

“What’s for dinner?” is a very common question around every household in America on a daily basis. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse has an excellent suggestion – BBQ! (No surprise there!) No matter which day of the week you happen to be reading this, it’s the perfect night to dine at our BBQ restaurant in Des Moines.
Need a little more convincing? Not a problem. Below we explain exactly why the best BBQ in Des Moines is a wonderful dining choice. After that, 4 more reasons (even if you’re not in the mood for BBQ tonight) that are equally as enticing.
That Hickory-Smoked BBQ!
Our “hybrid-style” of BBQ was inspired by the BBQ meccas of the U.S.A. – Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis, Texas, and the deep South. We have masterfully combined the best parts of those styles to create our very own irresistible flavors.
Hickory-smoked meats are the key. They are generously coated in our special dry rub and smoked low and slow over hickory for maximum flavor and tenderness. Before serving, we add our house-recipe sauce (which we make right here) to complement the flavor of the meat.
Our menu is filled with all kinds of ways to enjoy these mouthwatering morsels. Smoked meat plates, smoked meats on a bun, specialty BBQ entrees, and even as main ingredients in lots of other dishes. There are so many choices, you could eat here for both lunch and dinner every day for weeks and always find something new to try!
Something For Non-BBQ Lovers Too
Occasionally, you may have a craving for something other than BBQ. (Hard to believe, but it can happen.) Wobbly Boots Roadhouse is still a great idea because we’ve got plenty of delicious dishes for you those cravings too!
For example, we have a nice variety of salads to choose from, both with and without hickory-smoked meats. You’ll also find fantastic Big City Flatbreads, Black Angus Burgers, seafood sandwiches and dinners, and a whole lot more. Oh, and don’t forget, we serve up one of the best pork tenderloins you’re going to find in Iowa! Also, every Saturday and Sunday, we offer an incredible brunch menu as well.
Fun For Families AND Groups of Friends
Our Des Moines family restaurant is a terrific place to go for dinner whether you’re on your own, hanging out with the family, or meeting a group of friends. Our family-friendly atmosphere makes it a nice place to dine for all ages and our kids’ menu is full of tasty treats that children love.
There’s plenty of room to meet up with a bunch of friends or coworkers for an adult night out. We also host the best Happy Hour in Des Moines every Monday-Friday from 3-6 pm with 18 beers on tap and plenty of drink specials, including our wide selection of Iowa-brewed beer.
It’s a Great Place to Watch the Game
Football season is in full swing and as for the rest of the year, well, there’s always some type of game on to enjoy. Here at Wobbly Boots BBQ, we’ve got 17 TVs placed all around the restaurant and bar. That means that no matter where you decide to sit, you’ll have a great view! We get quite a few fans cheering around here, both young and old, especially when Iowa football is on!
You Won’t Have to Cook!
Perhaps the very best reason to head on over to the Boot tonight is the fact that we’ll do all of the cooking for you! As a matter of fact, we’ll clean it all up when you’re done too! All you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy an amazing meal. Shoot, if you order more than you can handle in one sitting, you’ll even have leftovers for tomorrow and won’t have to cook again!
So, there you have 5 excellent reasons to head on over to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive tonight. We’re open 7 days a week for lunch & dinner, plus every Saturday and Sunday we open early for brunch too. No matter what day you happen to read this, we’ll be right here waiting to serve you!
We still have pleasantly warm days here and there this time of year, but those cold ones make you want to run inside and warm your bones. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive can do that deliciously, beginning in your stomach! (Well, technically beginning in your mouth, but you know what we mean!)
Our BBQ restaurant in Des Moines has a menu filled with hot, tasty dishes that are just the thing for fighting off the cold. Soups are an excellent example. Take a look at our signature soup below plus a few more hot and satisfying foods you’re going to love.
A Customer Favorite – Baked Potato Soup
Wobbly Boots BBQ offers a different “Soup of the Day” daily, all year long. The flavors change, but the mad- from-scratch soups with fresh ingredients are always guaranteed to be delicious!
Our signature soup, which can be found on the menu every single day of the year, is our famous Baked Potato Soup. (If you haven’t tried it yet, we highly suggest that you do, as do just about all of our regulars!) This homemade rich and creamy soup is full of big chunks of potato and savory, hickory-smoked bacon, all garnished with cheddar-jack cheese, more crumbled bacon, and green onions. It’s such a popular favorite, we keep it hot and ready for you 7 days a week. (Yes, even in the summer!)
Make It a Combo
For anyone wanting to add a bit more to their soup meal, our Des Moines family restaurant offers a fantastic soup/sandwich/salad combo. There are a few different ways to mix and match these yummy options.
- Soup & Sandwich
- Soup & Salad
- Salad & Sandwich
You may choose two of the three options to enjoy for lunch or dinner. For the soup, pick either our signature Baked Potato Soup or the Soup of the Day. Sandwiches are all served hot on golden toasted sourdough and choices include Ham& Swiss, Turkey & Swiss, and our 4-Cheese Grilled Cheese.
Loaded Baked Potato
While a baked potato alone may not sound like a full meal at first, it definitely is once we get done loading it up! We take a full 1-pound baked potato and fill it with cheddar-jack cheese, bacon crumbles, and green onions.
Once that’s done, you get to choose one of our hickory-smoked meats to pile inside. These include Pulled Pork, Ham, Turkey Breast, Brisket, Sausage, or Burnt Ends. The final flavorful touch is a topping of our amazing house BBQ sauce. Add a bit of butter and sour cream and you’ve got more than enough to make a meal!
Each and every one of the mouthwatering foods above will hit the spot nicely on a chilly fall day or night. Of course, that’s just the beginning of the foods you can order at Wobbly Boots BBQ. In addition to the best hickory-smoked meats in Des Moines, we also offer Black Angus Burgers, Flatbreads, Steaks, Seafood, and a whole lot more. Truly something for everyone! The next time you get hungry, make your way on over to the Boot!
Whether you’re planning for lunch, dinner, or even breakfast, sandwiches work perfectly for every meal. As a matter of fact, you can even enjoy sandwiches for dessert! (Ever heard of an ice cream sandwich!?!) The important part is what’s in between your two slices of bread. Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive uses only the most delicious ingredients in all of our meals, including the many different types of sandwiches that we have to offer.
From chicken to prime rib, you’ll find a fantastic variety of sandwiches to choose from at our family restaurant in Des Moines. Take a look at the options from the Down Home Sandwiches portion of our menu and get ready to get hungry!

Now that’s a LOT of delicious sandwiches to choose from and we didn’t even get a chance to talk about our BBQ sandwiches piled high with the best hickory-smoked BBQ meats in Des Moines! Add to that many amazing entrees, salads, wraps, flatbreads, and burgers and it’s obvious that Wobbly Boots BBQ has something everyone can love!
Iowa’s official nickname is “The Hawkeye State,” but another nickname we are known by is “The Corn State” or sometimes the “Land Where the Tall Corn Grows.” We are also well-known for the many hogs that inhabit Iowa and, of course, one particular famous sandwich that’s a staple at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse. These facts have inspired our BBQ restaurant in Des Moines to dig up a few fun facts about some of the tasty foods that Iowa helps to make great.
DID YOU KNOW that farming encompasses about 90% of the land in Iowa? It’s true! Many of those farms have helped to make Iowa the nation’s leading producer of corn and corn byproducts. Our unofficial state song is “The Corn Song,” which clearly states that “that’s where the tall corn grows!”
The Cheesy Corn & Ham, from our list of delicious homestyle side dishes, features this popular Iowa vegetable in the most incredible way. The flavor is intensified by adding cheese and ham, the latter of which happens to be the next item on our list.
The main ingredient in hog feed is corn, and since we have an abundance of that here in Iowa plus acres upon acres of farmland, it should come as no surprise that we are the country’s leading producer of hogs. We are responsible for raising just about 1/4 of the nation’s pigs. As a matter of fact, they outnumber the humans in Iowa nearly 4 to 1!
We have high regard for the pig here at our family restaurant in Des Moines because that glorious animal is the reason we are able to give you the most tender, flavorful, hickory-smoked Pulled Pork you’ve ever tasted! Not only is that one of our most popular foods to order on its own (on a plate or as a sandwich,) but we also use it as the main ingredient for many of our other irresistible menu items. You’ll also find hickory-smoked Bacon and slices of hickory-smoked Ham used often as an ingredient as well. Here are a few examples:
- BBQ Pork Nachos
- Bacon Wrapped Shrimp
- The Wrangler Wrap
- Cowboy Cobb Salad (Yep, even on our salads!)
- Wobbly Style Club Sandwich
- Hillbilly Cuban
THE FAMOUS TENDERLOIN
One extremely popular menu item that the glorious pig provides us with is an Iowa staple – the Pork Tenderloin! This traditional food is sure to be found on any good menu in Iowa. Even though Indiana claims to be where this delicious dish was created, the very special people here in Iowa have perfected it!
The very best pork tenderloin in Des Moines can be found right here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive. First, we start with a more-than-generous portion of meat. The next step is to tenderize it and hand-dip it in buttermilk, then bread it in our expertly seasoned flour and bread crumbs before frying it to a perfectly beautiful golden brown. It takes a huge appetite to tackle this big boy, but it tastes so good, you’ll end up finishing it without any trouble. (Although you may need a doggy bag to take it home!)
You know the old saying “That’s the greatest thing since sliced bread!” Well, the genius that decided to create the very first loaf-at-a-time bread-slicing machine came from Davenport, Iowa. Otto Frederick Rohwedder introduced his machine to the world in 1928. It was deemed “the greatest forward step in the baking industry since bread was wrapped,” which eventually led to the well-known phrase, “the greatest thing since sliced bread.” Thanks to Otto, that already sliced bread lets us get your Wobbly Boots BBQ sandwiches out to the table a little bit quicker than if we had to slice every one ourselves!
Now that you know how very important our great state of Iowa is when it comes to producing these terrific foods, head on over to our Des Moines BBQ restaurant and order up a few of them. We’ve got a menu full of these plus many other taste-tempting meals for you 7 days a week at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse!
Some places serve pizza while others serve flatbreads, which causes many people to ask if there’s really a difference between the two. Well, first of all, the Big City Flatbreads we serve at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive are packed full of flavors to rival any pizza you’ve ever bitten into! Beyond that, there are a few other things that set the two foods apart from each other.
Not the Same, But Similar
Pizza is defined as a yeasted flatbread typically topped with tomato sauce and cheese and baked in an oven. It is commonly also topped with meats, vegetables, and condiments.
Flatbread “pizza” is generally made on a thinner, crispier crust using lighter toppings and sauce. Most often the sauce used is not a tomato sauce.
Since they have differing definitions, technically there is a slight difference between the two. Some people would love to argue the fact that pizzas and flatbreads are not the same food, but none of the research that we uncovered proved that as a definite fact. While the toppings and types of crust aren’t exactly the same, they are actually considered a similar dish.
Big City Flatbreads at the Boot
So… those findings were a bit anti-climactic. (Sorry about that!) Fortunately, the toppings we offer on our flatbreads at Wobbly Boots BBQ are exciting enough to titillate any taste bud! Even adamant pizza lovers easily become fans of these flatbread creations.
Check out the amazing flavors we’ve created especially for you below. Some feature our award-winning hickory-smoked meats while others offer flavors that are equally as irresistible.
Wobbly Boots own crab rangoon filling slathered on our flatbread pizza crust topped with our five-cheese pizza blend and finished with fried won tons and a sweet chili drizzle. A customer favorite!
We start with our thin flatbread pizza crust, then spread our homemade cheese sauce on top and add our five-cheese pizza blend topped with smoked ham, bacon crumbles, lettuce, and tomatoes, all drizzled with ranch dressing
Our homemade spinach artichoke dip generously spread over our flatbread topped with our five-cheese mozzarella blend, chicken, diced tomatoes, and finished with Parmesan cheese.
Buffalo Bacon Chicken & Jalapeno
Our flatbread covered in our chipotle buffalo sauce and topped with grilled chicken breast, bacon, and jalapenos, all topped with our five-cheese pizza blend and finished with ranch dressing.
Our homemade BBQ sauce spread over our flatbread pizza crust topped with slow-smoked brisket and red onion, then topped with a combination of our five-cheese pizza blend and cheddar jack cheese.
The next time that you have a craving for pizza (as we all do often, admit it) head on over to our family restaurant in Des Moines and try one of these fantastic flatbreads. Come in with the gang so that you can each order a different one, share slices, and give them all a try at once! We’d love to hear which Wobbly Boots Roadhouse flatbread is your favorite.

“The smoked prime rib hot beef sandwich hits the spot every time.” ~Dwight Porter
“It takes a lot to get 5 stars from me, this place smashed 5 stars. The food was outstanding. The catfish was one of the best I’ve ever had. The sausage and brisket were superb, great flavor and very tender brisket. Order to table time was quick for the quality. The staff were all super friendly. Even the bathroom was spotless. There is literally no downside to visiting. Please give it a shot; they very much deserve the try and you will not regret it.” ~Kieran F.
“The food at this place is delicious! I had the Brisky sandwich – brisket and smoked turkey smothered in delicious white cheese – and loved it! A friend had onion rings and they were huge and fried to perfection (and tasty…I stole one to try along with some of the dip). Oh… and I forgot to mention the to-die-for cornbread appetizer – served piping hot with honey butter – smells wonderful and tastes even better!” ~Todd Braun

“Great burgers! Awesome onion rings! – We had a coupon for a free burger with the purchase of a burger, so decided to give it a try. My husband had the El Diablo and I opted for the burger melt (with substitutions on the cheeses). The burgers were cooked exactly as we ordered them. The onion rings were huge. I’ve never had them that size before and just the right amount of tasty batter. The seasoned fries were ho-hum. Crinkle cut without much seasoning. The onion rings were definitely worth the extra charge. Our waitress was cheerful and helpful. And… They had Diet Dr. Pepper which was a huge plus for me!
The patio was very enjoyable on a gorgeous summer evening.” ~LittlePaint
“Ate here for the first time Saturday and it was delicious! Was there around 1-2 and wasn’t overly busy so we got our food in a decent time. Love the music and atmosphere! We got the bbq pulled pork sandwich, smashed potatoes, kids Mac and cheese, and ranch burger with fries and coleslaw!” ~Stephanie Majors

September is Better Breakfast Month. You’ll find the very best breakfast joined by savory lunch options every Saturday & Sunday when you join us for the best weekend brunch in Des Moines! We open Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive a little earlier than usual on the weekends at 9:00 am.
Since they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, we figured we’d better get in on that! Our incredible customers deserve it, plus serving an early meal on the weekends especially comes in handy for those early games during football season. In case you need a little convincing to not skip breakfast, here are some of the reasons it does a body good.
Maintain a Healthy Weight
Most people assume that skipping breakfast means that fewer calories will be consumed that day. On the contrary, missing breakfast means that you are much more likely to snack off and on throughout the day. You could end up taking in more calories than if you’d just let yourself have breakfast to begin with. You also get an early morning metabolism boost from breakfast which helps you burn calories throughout the day.
Fuel Your Day
If you’ve gotten a full night’s sleep, it’s been a good 8-10 hours at least since the last time you ate. You need to refuel your body in the morning to give it the energy you need to get your day started on the right foot. A good breakfast is a perfect way to do this and if you let yourself enjoy the many delicious choices we have to offer every weekend at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse, you know it’s going to taste amazing too!
Improve Your Mood
Without the energy you get from eating a good breakfast, you’re very likely to start your day feeling sluggish, irritable, and not at your best. A well-balanced meal early in the day keeps you alert, making you more productive, and ultimately improving your mood. Other things that will improve are your concentration, hand-eye coordination, creativity, and attention span.
At the Boot, Breakfast is Simply Irresistible!
As if weekends weren’t already the best, every Saturday & Sunday at Wobbly Boots BBQ from 9:00 am-1:30 pm you get to enjoy the most amazing brunch options you’ve ever laid eyes on! The timing means that it also crosses over with our regular menu so you’re free to choose from either one. Everyone in your group can get exactly what they’re hungry for!
You’ll find breakfast classics that aren’t quite like our regular BBQ dishes but there are also quite a few menu items that incorporate our award-winning hickory-smoked meats to create new breakfast favorites for you to discover. There are deliciously fun menu items like our Sausage, Egg, & Good Ol’ Gravy Pizza and our Wobbly Mac & Egg Bake Skillet. We’ve got perfectly portioned meals for the kids and plenty of a la carte options if you want to make up your own meal. Get a look at our full brunch menu here.
The very best part about enjoying brunch at the Boot on the weekend this time of year is that you’re already in your favorite seat when all the college football games start on Saturday and you’re here early for NFL action every Sunday! Get in the habit of enjoying a better breakfast every day and the best breakfast every weekend with us at our family restaurant in Des Moines!
