Turn Up the Heat With Spicy Foods at the Boot

International Hot & Spicy Food Day falls in the month of January (January 16, to be exact,) not to be confused with “National” Hot & Spicy Food Day that happens in the United States in August. (Apparently, we love spicy food so much we need to observe its glory twice a year!) Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive has our fair share of these types of menu items to offer, so we’re always ready to celebrate this taste sensation with you. In today’s blog, our Des Moines BBQ restaurant also has a few reasons why eating hot and spicy foods is actually good for you too!

Hot & Spicy Eats

If you prefer your food on the spicy side, we’ve got a few delicious options for you to choose from. In addition to the best BBQ in Des Moines, you’ll also find these tasty treats that will leave your appetite fully satisfied! Some are on the milder side, but if you need more heat, just let us know when you order!

Wobbly Wings
Our slow-smoked jumbo wings don’t start out spicy, but we have a few sauce choices to toss them in that will bring the heat! Go ahead and try them served Dijon Hot, Jalapeno Garlic, or Habanero BBQ style.

Buffalo Bacon Chicken & Jalapeno Flatbread
Our flatbread covered in our chipotle buffalo sauce topped with grilled chicken breast, bacon, and jalapenos topped with our five cheese pizza blend and finished with ranch dressing.

Jalapeno Garlic Shrimp
Eight jumbo shrimp gently sauteed in our jalapeno-garlic butter until perfect and also served with a side of jalapeno-garlic butter.

El Diablo Burger
A real mouth-burner! A half-pound flat-top burger cooked to your liking topped with bacon, jalapenos, our chipotle buffalo sauce, and pepper-jack cheese.

Good To Eat AND Good For You

Not only is it enjoyable (for most people) to bite into deliciously spicy food, but it’s also great for your physical health. Here are just a few of the reasons why chowing down on something hot and spicy can be a good idea.

  • Stress Relief
Endorphins are released in your body when you consume spicy food. These “feel-good” hormones are like a natural pain medication, they can reduce anxiety, and even ease the effects of depression.
  • Heart Health
“Bad” cholesterol can cause damage to a person’s body, but eating chili peppers can lower the risk of this by increasing the breakdown rate of this type of cholesterol. Blood flow is also increased, improving heart function and lowering blood pressure.
  • Weight Loss
Peppers contain a spicy chemical called capsaicin which is great for boosting your metabolism. The effects can last up to 20 minutes after you have eaten. Foods with a little extra heat can also help you to feel full, which reduces cravings for salty, sweet, and fatty foods.
  • Eases Congestion
We have all eaten hot foods before that cause us to begin sniffling. This is because spicy items thin mucus, which is perfect when you have clogged nasal passages. The heat can even help with respiratory problems like bronchitis and asthma.
  • Cancer Prevention
The American Association for Cancer Research has stated that the capsaicin in peppers has the ability to kill some cancer and leukemic cells. It creates a reaction that lowers the risk of tumors too.

The next time that you are craving something spicy, head on over to our family restaurant in Des Moines and give one of the menu items above a try. Just let us know how hot you can handle it and we’ll do our best to impress your taste buds just like we always do here at Wobbly Boots BBQ.

January is Soup Month – Grab a Bowl at the Boot!

It’s National Soup Month, which is perfect timing smack dab in the middle of January. The weather is cold outside, but a steaming bowl of delicious soup from Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive is just what you need to warm your bones, as well as the rest of your body!

Our Des Moines family restaurant makes a mean pot of soup that can be enjoyed either by the cup or by the bowl, alone for a light meal or paired with best BBQ in Des Moines. We’ve got one scrumptious flavor that’s always on the menu plus a second option that changes daily depending on what the talented cooks in our kitchen are in the mood to create that day.

Our Famous Baked Potato Soup

This delicious dish can be ordered off of our menu 7 days a week, all year long. Big chunks of potato and savory bacon are featured in this rich and creamy soup, and that hearty goodness is garnished with cheddar-jack cheese, green onions, and even more bacon crumbled on top.

You’re getting a dose of 3 of the 5 major food groups right in there, and if you enjoy it with a few crackers, well that adds a 4th. Drink a glass of orange juice with that (possibly with a bit of vodka from the bar mixed in…) and you’ve got a perfectly well-balanced meal!

Soup of the Day

Even though our Baked Potato Soup is hard to resist, some days you may be in the mood to try something different. For that very reason, we also offer a second made-from-scratch soup option daily. It changes depending on what type of delicious concoction our chefs have decided to whip up that day. Just ask your server which savory soup we’re offering when you come in and sit down to order.

Alone or a Combo?

The soups that come out of the Wobbly Boots BBQ kitchen are hearty enough to make a meal out of if that’s all you’re hungry for, but they always taste great paired with your other favorite menu items too. We also offer a yummy combo plate that allows you to pick 2 out of the following 3 delicious dishes to enjoy together for lunch or dinner.

  • Bowl of Soup
  • Garden Salad
  • Sandwich (either Ham & Swiss, Turkey & Swiss, or 4-Cheese Grilled Cheese served hot on golden toasted sourdough)

Hot, Delicious, & Satisfying

Who is ready to celebrate National Soup Month with us, Wobbly Boots-style? One taste and your body and soul will be all warmed up, and when you’re done your tummy will be full and happy! That’s true about all of the food that you order from our BBQ restaurant in Des Moines, so no matter what you decide to eat, you’re going to leave Wobbly Boots Roadhouse happy and satisfied.

No matter what you’re plans include, you’re going to want to take advantage of our scrumptious Prime Rib Dinner special! Send 2018 off in style right here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse.

About This Tasty Cut

This particular cut of beef is sometimes referred to as a standing rib roast, and it’s the finest cut of beef you will find. It is cut from the primal rib, one of the eight primal cuts of beef. The amount of marbling found on prime rib makes a big difference in the quality. The more fat that is woven throughout a particular cut, the more tender and juicy the final product will taste.

Prime Rib Dinner at the Boot

We take great care in the way we prepare prime rib at Wobbly Boots BBQ. Every piece is hand-cut, perfectly seasoned, and slow-smoked to perfection. Our prime rib dinners are so special, as a matter of fact, that they are only available every Friday & Saturday night after 5 pm. We serve it in either a 10-oz or 14-oz cut, and the dinner comes with a great big slice of Texas toast and your choice of two of our amazing homestyle side dishes.

Beyond the Steak Dinner

If you’re not craving a prime rib steak dinner, we have a wonderful variety of menu items that contain mouthwatering shaved prime rib as the main ingredient. Check out these incredible dishes below:

Prime Rib Hot Beef

Shaved prime rib served with smashed potatoes, beef gravy, and green beans.

Prime Rib French Dip

Prime Rib Melt

Succulent, house-smoked shaved prime rib topped with Swiss on grilled sourdough bread, served with our house-made horsey sauce on the side for an extra kick!

Delicious Drinks to Warm You Up From The Iowa Cold

Sure, a heavy coat with a hat, scarf, and gloves can shield you from those cold Iowa temperatures, but enjoying a nice hot drink from the bar at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive doesn’t hurt either! At the very least, the best bar in Des Moines will warm up your insides while you wait for your dinner to arrive. Here are a few ideas for some hot drinks you might want to give a try.

Whiskey Drinks

Whiskey has a reputation for warming up a person when the weather gets cold. In reality, it really just gives you the immediate sensation of warmth by causing your blood vessels to dilate which brings warm blood closer to the surface of your skin. The feeling won’t last long, but it will sure taste great when it goes down! Especially when mixed in these tasty cocktails.

  • Hot Toddy
This classic cocktail made up of whiskey, honey, lemon juice, and hot water is a terrific drink for tackling some of the symptoms of a winter cold.
  • Four Horseman
If a little bit of whiskey gives you a warm feeling, imagine what 4 at once will do! This delicious drink consists of scotch whiskey, bourbon whiskey, Tennessee whiskey, and Irish whiskey.

Coffee Drinks

Hot coffee always hits the spot on a cold day, and when you add some of the special ingredients from behind our bar, it tastes even better! Coffee cocktails are great to enjoy with your meal, and they make excellent after-dinner drinks too. Some of our favorite add-ins are; Bailey’s, Irish whiskey, Kahlua, and Amaretto. Those liquors taste fantastic when mixed into hot chocolate too.

Bloody Marys

Yes, we know, this drink is served over ice but it can still bring the heat! With the proper ingredients added to the base mix, we can really give it some spicy deliciousness. Let the bartender know how hot you can handle yours, and with the addition of some spices, hot sauce, and certain flavored vodkas, you’ll soon be enjoying a cocktail that will definitely warm you up.

Cold Beer & Hot BBQ

Of course, you could just let a plate full of the best hickory-smoked BBQ in Des Moines warm up your insides and stick to ice-cold refreshment when it comes to your beverage of choice. For example, among the 18 different draft beers we carry on tap, you can always find delicious seasonal flavors that only come around this time of year. More than likely it’s even going to be a seasonal beer from one of our local Iowa breweries, adding a bit of hometown pride to the great taste!

No matter which mouthwatering item you order off of our extensive menu, the talented bartenders at our Des Moines BBQ restaurant can come up with a creative cocktail that will pair with it perfectly! If you join us during Happy Hour every Monday – Friday from 3-6 pm, you may even get some of those awesome drinks at a discounted price! Come on in and fight off the cold weather here with us at the Boot. We open daily at 11 am.

Great Gift Ideas For BBQ Lovers

Most of the people we know here at Wobbly Boots Roadhouse in Clive are BBQ lovers, which makes a lot of sense. After all, if we’ve met them here, they’ve had a chance to taste the best BBQ in Des Moines and immediately fall in love with it! If you happen to have a few BBQ fanatics on your holiday shopping list, we’ve got some great ideas for presents they can get excited about.

BBQ From the Boot

The most obvious gift is food from their favorite BBQ restaurant in Des Moines! You could invite them to join you for lunch, dinner, or Happy Hour. If they happen to be sports fans too, you can time your trip together so that it coincides with a game you want to watch. (With 17 TVs placed all around the restaurant and bar, there’s not a bad seat in the house!) We open at 11:00 am, 7 days a week, and feature an incredible Happy Hour every Monday-Friday from 3-6 pm.

Gift certificates to Wobbly Boots Roadhouse are a great idea too. That way, the recipient can head on over to the Boot when it’s most convenient for them. (Maybe they’ll even invite you along!)

Swag From the Boot

Another great idea is a gift that lets a person show off their BBQ love. You can find some really nice t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and koozies right here at Wobbly Boots BBQ. They are actually a lot easier to wrap then a plate full of BBQ. (They last longer too!)

Grilling Essentials

If your BBQ lover grills or smokes as a hobby, then grilling equipment could be a wonderful idea, and possibly a recipe book with helpful tips and tricks to improve their skill. Think items like spatulas, tongs, cutting boards, specialty rubs, coolers to hold beers to enjoy while they cook, etc…

The most important piece of “grilling equipment” they can possibly receive, in our opinion, is a few bottles of our very own house-recipe BBQ sauce to help them create culinary masterpieces. You could even pick up a gift certificate to the Boot to go along with your gift, you know, just in case their recipe doesn’t work out.

A Party Invitation

Satisfy multiple people on your list all at once by throwing a party at our family BBQ restaurant in Des Moines and inviting everyone to join you! You can order from our regular menu, but we also offer buffets, prime rib dinners, and specialty platters on our in-house catering menu.

There is a 25-person minimum to reserve the entire party room, but we can make arrangements to set up a special area if your group is smaller than that. On the other hand, if you are hosting a party at another venue, we can load up our van and bring the best catering in Des Moines to you.

Hopefully, those ideas help to make your holiday gift-giving a little easier because they sound good enough to take care of everyone on your list. Then you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the rest of the holiday season. (Preferably with a plate of Wobbly Boots BBQ beside you!)

Black Friday Break Time

Black Friday is always a hectic and long day if you’re a bargain shopper. You’ll need to swing by the Boot at some point to refuel so that you can get back out there and keep going! It’s also a great place to hang out if you’re trying to avoid those crowds.

Even though it’s still part of most people’s extended holiday weekend, it is technically a weekday, which means that our awesome Happy Hour will be in full swing from 3-6 pm. The perfect time to enjoy even more football and maybe entertain those holiday guests away from your house.
